\u5723\u7ecf\u597d\u50cf\u4e00\u9762\u955c\u5b50\uff0c\u8ba9\u6211\u4eec\u770b\u5230\u6211\u4eec\u4e2a\u4eba\u7684\u771f\u9762\u76ee\u3002\u5e76\u4e14\u7ea0\u6b63\u6211\u4eec\u3002\u4fdd\u7f57\u8bf4\u9053\uff1a\u201c\u5168\u90e8\u5723\u7ecf\u90fd\u662f\u3000\u795e\u6240\u9ed8\u793a\u7684\uff0c\u5728\u6559\u8bad\u3001\u8d23\u5907\u3001\u77eb\u6b63\u548c\u516c\u4e49\u7684\u8bad\u7ec3\u5404\u65b9\u9762\uff0c\u90fd\u662f\u6709\u76ca\u7684\uff0c\u4e3a\u8981\u4f7f\u5c5e\u3000\u795e\u7684\u4eba\u88c5\u5907\u597d\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u5b8c\u6210\u5404\u6837\u7684\u5584\u5de5\u3002\u201d[\u63d0\u6469\u592a\u540e\u4e663:16-17]\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\uff0c\u4e3b\u65e5\u656c\u62dc\u805a\u4f1a\u7684\u8bb2\u9053\u8bcd\u5e38\u5e38\u5e2e\u52a9\u6211\u4eec\u505a\u5f7b\u5e95\u7684\u81ea\u6211\u68c0\u8ba8\u3002<\/p>\n

Why Christians Attend Worship Every Sunday
\n09: To Read and Study the Bible<\/strong>

Christians call Sunday \u201cthe Lord\u2019s day,\u201d meaning the day which belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ. The worship assembly that Christians attend on the Lord\u2019s day includes reading and studying God\u2019s Word (the Bible). During the service, a preacher or an elder will usually explain a portion of the Bible. The purpose of exposition of Scripture is to enable those assembled to understand God\u2019s Word, and to receive encouragement, comfort and affirmation, or perhaps reprimand and correction.<\/p>\n

Since the minister speaks on behalf of God, the congregation willingly listens to what he says. Since he speaks on behalf of God, the minister himself must remember that he too needs both encouragement and reprimand from God. Although it\u2019s he who speaks, the message is not his own, rather is God\u2019s. The preacher therefore must make ample preparation. He should read the Bible passages over and over, study them thoroughly, make a candid self-examination and apply the Scriptures to himself, and he should pray a lot. After he has worked on his own moral character and lifestyle, then he can preach according to the Bible admonition, \u201cWhoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God\u2026\u201d (1 Peter 4:11), and also \u201cDo your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth\u201d (2 Timothy 2:15).<\/p>\n

The purpose of this brief article, however, is not to discuss the preacher, but rather the book that the preacher explains\u2014the Bible. Why do Christians enjoy listening to sermons? Why do Christians enjoy studying the Bible? Why should Christians attend Sunday worship and receive Bible instruction? Let\u2019s allow the Bible itself to answer these questions.<\/p>\n

The Bible is the compass of life for Christians, so we agree with what one Biblical author said in praise to God, \u201cYour word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path\u201d (Psalms 119:105). Being so, we should allow the Bible to lighten our path constantly.<\/p>\n

The Bible is like a mirror which enables us to see ourselves as we really are; then the Bible corrects us. Paul said: \u201cAll scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work\u201d (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This is the reason that the sermon during a worship service on Sunday causes us to make a thorough self-examination.<\/p>\n

The book of Hebrews in the New Testament describes the word of God this way: \u201cIndeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account\u201d (4:12-13). From this we can see that reading the Bible is not like reading a novel, not like viewing a movie, not like listening to a fairy tale, and it isn\u2019t like reading other normal literature. It\u2019s correct that Christians enter a worship service with an attitude of thanksgiving, so they\u2019re happy and their hearts appear light. Sometimes the preacher may even tell a joke in his sermon. However, worshiping God is a very serious matter. God\u2019s eternal word is living not dead. God\u2019s word convicts us of sin, and commands us to repent, so Christians pay strict attention to and deeply respect the word of God.<\/p>\n

Every Christian\u2019s most important responsibility is to obey God. If one doesn\u2019t know God\u2019s word, if one doesn\u2019t understand God\u2019s commandments, how can he obey God? If he doesn\u2019t study God\u2019s word, how can he understand it? Hence we see how important it is for Christians to take part in the assembly each Sunday where they can study and learn God\u2019s word. At the same time, we receive strength and encouragement so that, after we leave the assembly, we can \u201clive\u201d God\u2019s word as we apply it to our daily lives.<\/p>\n
