Why is the Bible Divided into \u201cOld\u201d and \u201cNew\u201d Testaments?<\/p>\n

The main theme of the Bible is one person\u2014Jesus. Over and over, the Bible says that 1) Jesus will come; 2) Jesus has come; 3) Jesus will come again. The method that God selected for Jesus to come to earth from heaven, was for him to be born as a person (just like us).<\/p>\n

In order to become a man, Jesus needed an ethnic group and a mother. Thus, a very long time ago, God chose the Jewish people to be the blood line of Jesus. The first section of the Bible\u2014the Old Testament\u2014records the history of the Jews (the ancestors of Jesus, according to the flesh).<\/p>\n

The Old Testament records God\u2019s giving the \u201cTen Commandments\u201d and all the other commands to the Israelites. It tells the history of the Jews who often disobeyed God and rejected him as their leader. Although the Old Testament was written for the Jews, it attracts us and is valuable for all people. The Old Testament is full of praise for God and includes the stories of many very important people.<\/p>\n

Jesus Christ was born during the period of the Old Testament law. Jesus not only knew the Old Testament, he kept all of the commandments. Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecies; he completed salvation for mankind. The New Testament begins with the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The New Testament is for all people.<\/p>\n

The New Testament includes the establishment of the church and tells its early history. It tells us how to become a Christian, and how to live faithful to God.<\/p>\n
