Photo: I served as an “archaeologist’s assistant,” i.e, a volunteer digger, in Tel Beth Shemesh, Israel. We were divided into groups of three and each given an area to dig. As we dug, a young lady in my group discovered this small jar. Professional archaeologist Dr. Dale Manor, field director at Tel Beth Shemesh and professor of Bible and archaeology at Harding University, determined that this jar dated at about 1100 B.C.! How exciting to think that the jar in our hands had not been touched, used or seen in three thousand years! Photo ©Edward Short.
