Jonathan Comprehends the Truth
1. What does Jonathan not yet believe? David’s response is a well-known statement: “there is but a step between me and death” (NRSV). Memorize this.
2. Vs. 4-34: What do David and Jonathan decide to do in order to determine whether Saul intends to harm David? (Note: The record of this event is very interesting; please do not skip this good opportunity to read and think about it.)
3. What was the result? What did Jonathan realize about his father?
4. Vs. 30: What abusive language did Saul use to refer to his son?
5. Vs. 31: Saul already knew what the future held; what did he say about Jonathan?
6. Vs. 33: What did Saul try to do to Jonathan? What did this enable Jonathan to comprehend?
7. Vs. 35-42: Why did Jonathan shoot an arrow?
8. Vs. 41-42: Describe the friendship between David and Jonathan.
