迦___、亚___基___、以___伦。

Judges/01: The Lord Raised Up Judges
Judges chapters 1-3

1. Judges ch. 1: The Israelites Defeat the Canaanites:

Describe how the Israelites attacked the Canaanites Perizzites. Who was Adoni-Bezek? Why did the Israelites cut off his thumbs and big toes? What city did Judah attack? (However, they did not completely occupy that city; see vs. 21.)

Vs. 18: What cities did Judah occupy? G___, A___ and E___. These were cities of the Philistines.

Vs. 22-26: How was the house of Joseph able to attack Bethel?

Vs. 27-36: The writer of Judges often repeated one phrase; what was it? So-and-so did such-and-such, [but] they did not d___ them o___ completely (or a similar statement). These statements give us a hint that the Israelites had already begun to leave (whom).

2. Judges ch. 2 and 3:1-6: Man’s Weakness; God’s Faithfulness:

Vs. 1-5: What message did God’s angel give the Israelites?

Vs. 6-14: How long did the Israelites serve God after the death of Joshua? The heads of families during the generation following the death of Joshua did not t___ their children about the miracles God performed for Israel, the grace he extended or all that he did for them, nor did they tell them about their own individual faith. Consequently “They forsook the LORD, the God of their f___, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and w___ various gods of the peoples around them. They provoked the LORD to a___.” What did God do to Israel as a result of this?

Vs. 15-19: Verse 16 proves that God was faithful to the “covenant” as it says, “Then the LORD raised up j___, who s___ them out of the hands of these raiders.” What did Israel do after these judges died?

Vs. 20-23 and ch. 3 vs. 1-6: God passed verdict that the Israelites had b___ the covenant that they had made with God, so God decided that he would no longer “I will no longer d___ out before them any of the nations…” The Lord left some Canaanite groups “to t___ Israel.” Reader, do you see a pattern in these events? 1) The Israelites forsake God and sin; 2) God allows the Canaanites and foreign peoples to defeat Israel in battle; 3) Israelites cry out to the Lord; 4) God sends “judges” to save Israel and to return to the Lord the true God; 5) They serve God for another period of time; 6) eventually they forsake God again. This is the pattern that the book of Judges records over and over. Read carefully Judges 2:10-23 once again and pay attention to the pattern. Memorize this pattern. Note: The Preface to Judges ends at this point (3:6). Do we ever see in our own lives today the same pattern that the Israelites followed? Do we go further and further away from God? Do we wait until we face problems, illness, death, economic crises, personal difficulties, etc, before we beseech God’s help? After the crisis is past, do we then forget the grace that God has extended (i.e. via answered prayer) as well as the promises we made to him, and then forsake him again?

3. Judges 3: God Raises Judges:

Vs. 7-11: The first great judge: Othniel: What Othniel do as a judge? For how many years did the land enjoy peace?

Vs. 12-30: The second great judge: Ehud: What was different about Ehud? He was l___-handed. Describe in detail how Ehud assassinated Eglon king of Moab. For how many years did the country have peace? (Note: Perhaps the author of Judges rounded off these numbers.)

Vs. 31: Another judge: Shamgar: What great feat did Shamgar perform?
